PHE TWG Meeting at Panafric Hotel on Monday 28th February, 2023

NCPD is hosting the Population Health and Environment (PHE) Technical Working Group meeting. The forum will strategize on the implementation of the PHE Programme in the country. PHE is an integrated sustainable development approach that addresses the complex connection between population, health and environment. Coordination and collaboration between the population, health and environment sectors is key to achieving a positive impact.

In 2018, the PHE Technical Working Group development and of the Kenya PHE Strategic Plan 2018-2022. This plan is now due for updating. Rapid increase in population in the arable lands has led to the decrease in land holding per capita and also decline in land productivity. Consequently, many people are now moving to Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) which are not agriculturally viable leading an increase in environmental degradation and soil erosion.

PHE integrated approach/model in development planning, is now entrenched in the Kenya Vision 2030 and its Medium Term Plans which aims to transform the country into an industrialized upper-middle-income economy offering a high quality of life to all its citizens by 2030.

Benefits of PHE Interventions include; Increase in Family Planning uptake, improvement in environmental conservation and protection, livelihood improvement, builds resilient communities, improves child and youth education, enhances food and nutrition security, and contributes to improved maternal and child health.
