PPD BOARD MEETING HELD AMIDST COVID19 PANDEMIC

Today 16th October 2020 the Director General of NCPD who is the Honourable Member of the International Partners in Population and Development (PPD) joined the 25th Board virtual meeting of Partners in Population and Development. The Board members discussed among other topics, how PPD can help accelerate the ICPD and SDGs by 2030, learning from the COVID-19 experience and achieving the Nairobi Commitments. Kenya was elected as one of the members of the next PPD Executive Committee.

Kenya is a founding member of PPD, an international Inter-Governmental Organization (IGO) of 27 developing countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East established during ICPD to promote South-South Cooperation (SSC) in RH, Population and Development within ICPD Programme of Action.

This is realized through an international Inter-Governmental Framework of promoting SCC in Advocacy, Networking and Policy formulation.

South-South Cooperation promotes sharing of good practices and experiences and supports member states to realize their national aspirations and development goals in reproductive health, population and development. Kenya documented a best practice in 2019; “The Population, Health and Environment (PHE) Eliminating National Gaps, Advancing Global Equity (ENGAGE) project”, which was published in the publications of Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development Vol.3.

Kenya has also benefited from PPD scholarship program offered with support from Egypt, India and South Africa contributing towards development of human resource base through capacity development, leadership and service delivery in RH and Population and Development.

The government of Kenya remains committed to the work of PPD and to promote South-South Cooperation as an accelerator to achieving ICPD Programme for Action and the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development.
