NCPD TRAINS COUNTIES ON PADIS

The National Council for Population and Development held a two-day training on population projections using PADIS software. The training took place at Kenya School of Government in Embu on 5th and 6th March 2019 and involved 18 participants from the six (6) counties from Central region. The participants were drawn from the County Planning and County Statistics offices. The counties that were represented were: Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua and Laikipia.

The objectives of the training were:

  • Sensitize Participants on Background of PADIS-Int
  • Train Participants to use PADIS Software
  • Develop and share population projections and population messages for selected counties
  • Build county teams that have capacity to develop population projections

During the training, participants were shown on how to develop population projections for their respective counties using the PADIS-INT software from the year 2010 to 2100. PADIs-INT is an acronym that stands for; Population Administration Decision Information System International (International Version). The software was developed by China Population and Development Research Centre (CPDRC) and is recommended for use worldwide. The software produces projections on: Population, Births & Mortality, labor force, Dependency ratio, Net migration, Median age. Participants were also taken through the Demographic Dividend presentation. This was after a request from one of them who wanted to understand what Demographic Dividend is all about. Participants indicated that they have been empowered to make real time projections for their counties without any further difficulty and thanked NCPD for the initiative. They requested for NCPD to consider training more officers in the counties since the tool is very useful in making decisions. At the end of the training, each participant developed and presented a county specific project using the software
