Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Director General
Dr. Mohamed Sheikh is the Director General for the National Council for Population and Development, a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency under The National Treasury and Planning.
He previously served as the Head of Family Health Department, Ministry of Health Kenya.
He is a Medical Doctor and hold a master degree in International Public Health and a second Master in Maternal and Child health.
A seasoned civil servant, Dr Sheikh, has served with excellence having had over sixteen years of experience in senior level health management systems and leadership. As the head of the department of family health, he oversaw the coordination and development of policies, strategies, guidelines and capacity building in Reproductive, Maternal, newborn, adolescent health and nutrition in the country. Dr. Sheikh is credited for the introduction of innovative interventions including the breast milk bank being piloted in Kenya, use of chlorohexidine for cord care, introduction of amoxicillin DT for treatment of pneumonia in children and introduction of new vaccines. These great ideas have greatly contributed to reduction in maternal and child morbidity and mortality in the Kenya.
While serving as the provincial director of medical services, North Eastern province of Kenya, he contributed immensely to the improvement of maternal and child health indicators through introduction of innovative programmes within the region.
Dr. Sheikh serves as board director of the Anti- Female genital Mutilation (FGM) in Kenya, He is also an advisor of a multi donor trust fund for GFF.
Mr. Peter Nyakwara

Mr. Peter Nyakwara is the Director Technical Services at the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD), a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA) whose mandate is the coordination of Population policies and programmes. He got his MA Population Studies from the UN Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana in 1993. He has over 25 years’ experience in the population and development sector. He has held various positions in the population sector with about 12 of these years in Leadership and Management positions.

He is responsible for managing and guiding all of the Council’s technical activities and maintaining collaboration and partnerships with Ministries, Development Partners, NGOs and CSOs involved in population programmes.

Prior to becoming the Director Technical Services, Mr. Nyakwara served in North Rift, Western and Coast Regions as a Regional Population Coordinator. In the Headquarters he served as an Assistant Director in all the Technical Divisions before promotion to the position of a Deputy Director in charge of Communication, Advocacy and Public Education Division.

He has expertise in conducting analyzing population data. He is a policy analyst with expertise in population policy formulation, programme coordination, integration of population variable into the development planning process and also research and advocacy.

Lucy Kimondo is a professional population social scientist with over 10 years’ experience in management of population and development programs. She has exemplary skills in program cycle management including planning, implementation coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting and resource mobilization. Lucy has extensive experience in research, policy formulation, dissemination, review and implementation having worked with local and international parliamentarians, policy makers, donors and other decision makers to increase allocations to and disburse resources that support population and reproductive health programmes including family planning.

Her key strengths include, advocacy for population, reproductive health and development programs within government, civil society and with development partners; Program planning, management and implementation; Training of Trainers with proven ability to coordinate trainings and facilitate effectively, and an expert in curricula and job aids development.; Strong leadership qualities and understanding complex project problems, and producing high quality work through teamwork; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Team player.

Mwongela Mikwa is a journalist by profession and a practicing communications specialist serving as the Chief Public Relations officer at the National Council for Population and Development, Kenya. He is also a Doctoral Research Fellow at The Institute of Co-operative Digital Economy at the New School University, New York.
He is a Public Relations Professional offering comprehensive experience in Journalism and corporate communications. He has Strong leadership traits and excellent coordination abilities in different cultures simultaneously even under pressure with an enhanced operational efficiency and optimization of resources while beating tight deadlines.
He has expansive experience in Journalism and PR practice over the last 7 seven years having been the editor of the Kenya’s ‘The Co-operator’ magazine and an editorial board member of the Kenya’s ‘Co-operative Magazine’. He has served as a council member of the Kenya’s National Council for the celebration of the International Day of Co-operatives. He has also taught Journalism and Public Relations at various middle level colleges and also at the University level.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication; a Master Degree in Communication Studies; He has published several research papers in peer reviewed journals in in various disciplines Journalism, Public relation and Moral Philosophy. He has attended and presented research papers in international conferences in Kenya and outside the country.
