The Government recognizes the crucial role of UN Agencies, whose support is integral to social, economic and environmental initiatives being implemented in the Country towards realization of national development priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. There are several UN Agencies operating in Kenya and implementing various programmes and projects across the 47 counties. The UN Agencies support resource mobilization, reporting and sharing of global best practices on SDGs implementation in Kenya across the different sectors

The private sector engagement is crucial for successful implementation of SDGs. In Kenya, the private sector has been actively involved in the implementation of several different aspects of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) which is the apex private sector body in Kenya has initiated and taken part in programs that inspire other businesses to embrace and implement Sustainable Development Goals. The Alliance brings together over 500,000 businesses including SMEs from all sectors of the economy under one umbrella to engage the government and other stakeholders in one voice on areas of interest or issues of concern to businesses.
As a member of the SDG’s Inter-Agency Technical Committee responsible for coordination of implementation and reporting of progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kenya, KEPSA coordinates the development of Private Sector Report to compliment and report the progress of private sector towards Kenya’s National Voluntary Review.

Civil Society Organizations are critical stakeholders in the SDGs implementation. They provide direct services to vulnerable populations, support skills development through capacity building and training, and provide microfinance services for economic empowerment. They also carry out policy advocacy and awareness creation to support implementation of the SDGs.

Since 2017, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have been submitting progress reports to inform Kenya’s Voluntary National Review (VNR). The 2017 CSO VNR report was structured to report on progress made in the period ending 2016, and the 2019 CSO VNR report was a biannual report looking at progress undertaken over 2017/2018.

The 2020 CSO VNR report picked up from the 2019 Status report and incorporated the progress over 2019. Importantly, all of the three reports referenced above mirror Government-led VNR processes, with leadership from the SDGs Kenya Forum and its members, and feeding into the government-led country VNR reports and processes since 2017.

Academia and Research Institutions are the primary entities for the generation and dissemination of knowledge across the 17 SDGs. The Institutions facilitate research and innovations on accelerating SDGs implementation in the Country.
