Board Member
Sophie Kaibiria is the Executive Director of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Kenya). She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 15 years of progressive experience in governance, legal advocacy, and institutional leadership.
She brings expertise in access to justice, women’s rights programming, policy and legislative reform, organisational compliance, and resource mobilisation. Her career spans senior leadership roles within key national institutions, where she has successfully led large-scale donor-funded programmes, strengthened institutional systems, and fostered strategic partnerships at national and county levels.
Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Sophie served as the Director of the Practice Standards Directorate at the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) for over three years. In this role, she played a central part in shaping and implementing strategic institutional programmes aimed at strengthening professional standards and accountability within the legal profession.
At FIDA Kenya, she previously served as the Lead for Women and Governance, where she was instrumental in driving high-impact advocacy initiatives, particularly during the lead-up to the 2022 General Elections. Her work contributed to advancing women’s political participation, electoral justice, and gender-responsive governance.
Sophie was also the first Programme Manager for the Court Users Committees (CUCs) under the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ), where she supported the institutionalisation of access to justice mechanisms across the country. Additionally, she served as a member of the State of the Judiciary Annual Report (SOJAR) Preparedness Committee for three consecutive cycles between 2016 and 2019.
Earlier in her career, Sophie was among the first cohort of legal researchers recruited by the Judiciary of Kenya following the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, contributing to institutional transformation efforts. She also served as a Project Officer under the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation process, supporting the initial implementation of the Constitution.
She is widely respected for her ethical, results-oriented leadership and her deep commitment to advancing gender equality, justice, and the rights of women and girls across Kenya
