COUNTY CONSULTATIVE FORUMS KICK OFF AS NCPD GEARS REVISION OF THE POPULATION POLICY: BUSIA COUNTY

The National Council for Population and Development has commenced the 1st phase of county Consultative forums on the revision of the population policy. In Busia County, the meeting brought together several participants drawn from both public and private sectors the Government Ministries, the education sector (basic, tertiary and TVET), health, physical planning, sports, culture & social services, lands, KNUT, TSC, civil registration, youth department, People living with Disabilities, Boda Boda association, Judiciary, KUPPET, economic planning, ICTA, Governor’s office, Ward & MCA representative among others. The Busia County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr. Joseph Onyango graced the occasion.

The deliberations focused on five thematic areas; Population Health; fertility; Age structure; Migration & urbanization and Human settlement. It is of much concern that Busia County has the highest school dropout rate among girls in the Country as a result of teenage pregnancies.
