Pre-conference Bilateral Meeting: Strengthening South–South Cooperation for Population & Development During 2025 ICFP Conference
On Sunday, 2nd November 2025, a pre-conference bilateral round-table meeting was held between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Executive Director Dr. Diene Keïta and the Partners in Population and Development (PPD) Executive Committee (EXCO) Board Members ahead of the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia under the theme “Equity Through Action: Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for All.”
The EXCO members included Prof. Mohamed Douagi PPD Board Chair and the President Director General, National Board for Family and Population, Tunisia, H.E. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora the PPD Board Vice Chair and Minister of Health, Zimbabwe, Dr. Mohamed Sheikh the PPD Board Treasurer and NCPD Director General, H.E. Mr Syed Mustafa Kamal the PPD Secretary and Federal Minister of National Health Services, Pakistan, Prof. Joseph Adelegan the PPD Executive Director and the PPD Secretariat team.
The meeting focused on reinvigorating PPD as a leading regional and global platform for connecting members countries on exchanges in knowledge, learning, capacity building and best practices on population and development, strengthening collaboration between UNFPA and PPD, and advancing South–South cooperation to accelerate progress on sexual and reproductive health, family planning, and sustainable development.
The conference officially kicks off on 3rd November, 2025, bringing together government ministers, development partners, parliamentarians, youth and civil-society representatives from over 30 countries to deliberate on key priorities, including mobilizing financing for reproductive health and family planning, leveraging demographic dividends, and advancing inclusive, country-led progress for sustainable development.
