NCPD MEETS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY’S FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning in the National Assembly led by the Vice Chairperson, Hon. Ndirangu Waihenya (MP -Roysambu) is this weekend holding a two-day engagement retreat with the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD). The NCPD team is led by the board Chairperson, the Hon. David Ngugi and the Director General, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed.

 

The NCPD had invited the Hon. Wanga led Committee to sensitize the Committee on population and development issues; deliberate the draft National Population Policy to incorporate the Committee’s views; and to review the draft National Council for Population and Development Bill.

 

The NCPD’s Director General, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed underscored to the Committee the role that NCPD plays in the development of the analysis on multi-sectoral population issues and developing population-related policies, while providing leadership and coordinating and mobilizing support for population programmes.

 

He further highlighted the Population and Development Interlinkages noting that Population and Development relationships are complex and multifaceted. The Committee was taken through how population influences development plans and the challenge of population in National development.

 

The Session Chair, the Hon. Ndirangu undertook that the Committee will remain steadfast in providing leadership and support to developmental issues, adding that the Members will work closely with the National Council for Population and Development to enable it finalize on the Bills thus boosting the implementation mechanism of its mandate.
